From mourning to catharsis. From trauma to cosmogony. A ritual eclipse for all that is lost. A prayer for the rebirth. A dark rave to bid farewell.

For MIR 2023, in the context of FOND AFFECTIONS, in a haunting landscape, Spyros Kouvaras presents an excerpt from his work Natura Morta (a dance less).
Two bodies stand suspended in the transition of time from mourn to ecstasy. They lead us from lament to catharsis and from trauma to cosmogony. A ritual eclipse for what we lost. A prayer for what will be born. A dark rave of farewell.

In Natura Morta (a dance less), Spyros Kouvaras signs a work about loss, about “lost natures”. A choreography which acts as a reminder of time for the inescapable fate of man and the vulnerability of the material world. Paying a tribute to composer Giorgos Kouvaras, his brother and constant collaborator, who passed away prematurely last spring, the choreographer introduces a liminal space-time in which a dance ritual unfolds, at times as a contemporary dirge and at times as an archaic rave. In a post-apocalyptic environment, two dancers suspended in grief and ecstasy, trauma and healing, pay a last farewell, seeking a moment of eclipse for other possible worlds.

“Two bodies, remains of a primitive rave, stand suspended in a liminal space-time between lament and ecstasy. Like modern shamans, they create a ritual of transition from mourning to catharsis, seeking with their dance an eclipse that will transform the trauma of nature into a cosmogony”.
