How can the invisible female wrath become visible? Ten women dance their wrath while smart appliances transform it into light. And yes, this female electric wrath is mutating into art that one can see and hear! Volcanic!

Visual artist and performer Sofia Kouloukouri has been living and creating in Switzerland for the past ten years, keeping the channel with Greece open. Her work has two poles, endurance and narrative. Her works, many of which are called “workouts”, are related to the notion of weight. The weight, literally or figuratively, carried by the female body, are a constant in her work. One can trace their origins to the basic upbringing of girls, to myth, and to Christian doctrine. Through her texts, objects, and performances she explores “vulnerability” and “robustness” as fundamental notions of female identity. But in addition to the above, the work is also an experience beyond speech about female anger, about the female rage that often remains unexpressed, and about how women are made visible together as a collective body.

With elements of both dance and performance, Electric Wrath is also a “workout”. The performers are made visible by the use of an imaginative induction coil device that enables the convert of their kinetic energy into electricity and illuminates the action. The choreography attempts to lead the collective female body into an ecstasy of rage. In this sense it is a ritual passage from “me” to “us”.

“Would it be possible that we create a performance generating its own energy? Is it possible as an artist to produce the energy my works require and not charge the ecosystem for it? Is there a way to channel the rage I feel as a woman? Could we direct that rage into something useful in a way that benefits us all?”
