Swarm, baby, swarm! Rehearsing new forms of assembly, we move through the streets with our inflatable lights and a beat from the live DJ set on our personal speakers. Like a radiating dancing swarm, we dance anywhere, on stairs, squares and over bridges, igniting sociality.
The end of MIRfestival 2023 will be marked by the collaborative research performance Swarm in the public space with participation of the audience.
Swarm invites you to rehearse new forms of assembly. With beats by DJ Figkott, we move through the streets like a radiating dancing swarm, igniting sociality. Each dancer carries a small speaker. This lightweight, decentral speaker system allows us to move on stairs, squares and in the streets, transforming public space into temporary dancefloors. By keeping space in between each dancer, the swarm forms an open crowd, where people can join or move through. Like a flock of birds, we travel through the streets, reacting to who and what we encounter. There is no specific dance style; instead, Swarm aims to activate everyone’s unique way of dancing.
Floor van Leeuwen Floor van Leeuwen is a dutch choreographer and researcher. In 2021, they initiated Ræv Rehearsal, a dance project responding to Covid-19 restrictions. In 2023, they co-created Rise Baby Rise, addressing UK protest restrictions. Currently a fellow at Newrope ETH, they researches collective movements in public spaces.
DJ Figkott is the initiator and resident DJ of Qreclaim and The Schenkens.
Natassa Dourida is a sociocultural engineer based in Athens. She developed the sociocultural project Communitism with the aim to motivate communities into reactivating abandoned heritage buildings in Athens.
Simomo Boujarra is a dancer, choreographer and curator with a dance background in various movement m-philosophies. Simomo holds space and supports you to activate it. For Swarm they will activate ‘the dancing body’ with participants and dance themselves.
